Reaching For The Stars: Profile on Gregshea Dolberry
Anna Rotenberg:
As Gregshea's Occupational Therapist, I have seen him emerge
in numerous areas. At the start of his Baer School experience,
Gregshea seemed to be a timid and withdrawn child. Now he is
outgoing and expressive, the total opposite! My role as his
therapist is to support him and provide him with the things
necessary for him to succeed. I quickly found out that
Gregshea appeared timid at first because he was never given
the opportunity to be independent. In the Baer School, he is
given equipment and support in the areas of mobility, seating
and language to foster his independence. Gregshea inspires me
everyday because despite his many orthopedic impairments he
knows NO boundaries!
Brandi Boone-West: I have worked with Gregshea as
his Physical Therapy Assistant. When I first met Gregshea he
was sitting on his mother's lap, looking like a four-month-old.
In reality he was four years old. Little did I know he was
going to be so outgoing. He has achieved everything that
has been introduced to him. His previous therapist ordered him
a stroller, but Gregshea had something else in mind. He can
now propel independently with a small wheelchair provided by
the Baer School. Gregshea is self motivating, loves himself
and does not have a problem with who he is. This is why he
has been so successful.
We adapted a prone stander for him so he can propel
himself throughout the halls. He loves to greet his
friends and uses his new amplification system that the
speech therapist gave him. The equipment provided by the
Baer School allows him to be erect and move about
like his peers. We even adapted a tricycle for him which
he loves.
Gregshea is very pleased and happy about the equipment
and opportunities that the Baer School has to offer. As
his Physical Therapy Assistant, I am thankful that the
school has equipment available for students like Gregshea
to use.
